Date notes: Early July 2017, 5-7

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: There are many of those purple cone flowers where I work. They seem to love those. Thornton, Co 80233

Coordinator notes: This is a female of the Two-tailed Tiger Swallowtail. They are the most common in the city area. The Western Tiger Swallowtail does occur in the city but is less common. You will likely see it in the foothills and mountains. It is smaller, lighter yellow color with wider black "tiger" stripes and does not have the little second tail you can clearly see against the purple flower pedal in the bottom right part of your picture. Beautiful blue spots in the black submargin on the hindwings - more than on the males. Mike
