Nessus sphinx
Amphion floridensis

Observation date: May 27, 2017
Submitted by: ra.mercer
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Originally found as its wings were uncurling. Since I was doing lawn work in my suburban yard, I moved it onto a branch of a Franklinia tree. I got some pictures of it in that stage,, including the underside, and this one once it finished inflating wings. The weather was a warm spring day with a mix of sun and shade. My wife and I plant a lot of native species and the area where this insect was found was a brushy area.
