Mottled Prominent
Macrurocampa marthesia

Observation date: February 03, 2017
Submitted by: mellielong
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on our well pump which is underneath oak trees. St. Augustine grass grows below. Appeared to have just molted as evidenced by skin underneath it on the well. Update: Changed second picture to show caterpillar after it molted last night. Anal prolegs have shortened noticeably. Brown areas have disappeared with molt. Update 2: Caterpillar is happily eating oak leaves in captivity. It has not eaten Black Cherry or Carolina Willow leaves provided. Update 3: Caterpillar is turning pink in what I assume is preparation to pupate.
