Black Swallowtail
Papilio polyxenes

Observation date: October 19, 2016
Submitted by: akeo
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This beautiful caterpillar is hanging out in our community garden in Chicago (Humboldt Park). Surprisingly, it was found crawling near the soil in a raised bed of carrots and radishes. After observing it for a couple of hours, it's moving around the raised bed and seems to be healthy. We've been lucky hosts of tiger swallowtails in our garden in the past. Not sure who this is!
