Coordinator notes: Fully grown caterpillar of the Eastern Black Swallowtail - feeds on carrot or dill and other fennel plants common in most gardens so I expect you had some of this or it was nearby (where more rural, Queen Ann's Lace or hemlock (poisonous!) along ditches and moist fields) on plains and foothills in eastern Colorado.
