Walnut sphinx
Amorpha juglandis

Observation date: July 30, 2016

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Moth was doe (as in deer) or camel light brown in color and approximately 2 inches in width with wings not fully spanned and wings approximately 1.5 inches in length. The body was about 3/8 inch wide and over an inch long. Was initially found in a 5 gallon bucket filled with goop compost from our own compost pile. Had to very carefully move it to the trunk of a tree so as to not injure while scooping out the compost while transplanting. Was very still and didn't seem to have any anxiety about grasping onto my finger with its legs while being removed from the bucket and placed on the bark.
