Coordinator notes: This is a checkerspot butterfly as identified (Euphydryas anicia). The subspecies is capella which occurs along the Front Range foothills in eastern Colorado most commonly from the Colorado Springs area northward. Your listed date is quite a bit early for this species. It usually does not fly until late June and into July in the noted area so I only question the accuracy of the date at the locality given.
