Mormon Metalmark
Apodemia mormo

Observation date: August 29, 2013
Submitted by: Josiah Gilbert
Specimen type: Photograph
Collection location: Josiah Gilbert (personal collection)
Observation notes: Extremely abundant! I do not know if I have ever seen so many butterflies of the same species at the same place. Associated with Naked Buckwheat (Eriogonum nudum). Naked Buckwheat plants are not very large, but I counted ten metalmarks on a single plant!
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: December 30, 2015
Coordinator notes: This appears to be very similar to subspecies cythera which blends to the coastal segregate of Apodemia mormo in this area-Ken Davenport
