This caterpillar was quietly munching on a birch tree leaf when we spotted it on our trail walk near Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon, UT. It was a warm and lovely fall day, perfect for sitting in a tree, munching leaves.

I found this specimen floating on the surface of the Green River just below Flaming Gorge Dam, Utah on September 9, 2013 at about 10:00PM while conducting nighttime electrofishing surveys for trout. The weather was cool (55-60F) and calm, with scattered showers.
