Observation Notes: 
There were several Southern Dogface Butterflies in a wet spot on a gravel road. Southern Dogface butterflies were seen at two other places on the refuge on that date - all together there were about 3 dozen individuals noted.

The individual in the photograph was seen on Red Mill Drive just west of the Ditch 2 bridge on Mingo National Wildlife Refuge. Additional Southern Dogface Butterflies were seen on the refuge at two other locations along Red Mill Drive toward Schoolhouse Exit - the greatest number were at the Schoolhouse trailhead puddling with a number of other species in the gravel parking lot.
