Sighting Record 1221970

Observation Notes:
Seen in the middle of road as I was leaving Baker Wetlands. Wasn't sure if it was hurt or not, so tried to help if I could. Would fly a little bit, but seemed to prefer remaining in the road. Not sure if it found something tasty in the cracks of the road or if it was trying to regain its strength after a close call? Let me get quite close but wouldn't let me pick it up. Size: Little larger than one I'd seen earlier, approx. 3" wingspan. Weather: 82 degrees, 80% humidity, temperature rising while humidity falling. Heavy rainfalls yesterday and part of this morning.

Sighting Record 1221954

Observation Notes:
Seen flying around an area normally just wild grasses and wildflowers at Baker Wetlands, but now partially underwater due to the heavy rainfall all day yesterday and part of this morning. Landed on a milkweed blossom, fed from it for 2-3 minutes, then flew around some other flowers and plants but didn't land, then sailed over to another milkweed's blossoms and fed from it. Size: Seemed pretty large, guessing approx. a 4" wingspan. Weather: 81 degrees, 89% humidity, sun starting to break through overcast skies.

Sighting Record 1221952

Observation Notes:
Was excited to see this butterfly as I've never seen this kind before. Was seen in the grasses at Baker Wetlands right near the boardwalk where heavy rainfall yesterday and part of this morning flooded the ponds and swamps, the water now being up to the boardwalks, about 2' below the one I was on. In flight, the dorsal view was bright orange with very definite heavy black borders. It let me get a little close, but not too close. When I got too close, it would fly about 3' away and land again, repeat. Size: Approx. 1.75 - 2" wingspan. Weather: 78 degrees, 94% humidity, overcast skies.

Sighting Record 1221941

Observation Notes:
Seen at Baker Wetlands after a long heavy rain. Stayed put for several minutes while I photographed it, then flew across the path to another Viceroy, where they briefly twirled about each other in the air, then both rested on a tall dead stem. The initial one I saw only stayed for half a minute then flew off while the other one remained on the stem. Size: Approx. 2.5 - 2.75" wingspan. Weather: 77 degrees, 95% humidity, had just finished sprinkling 30 minutes before, heavy rains all day yesterday into this morning, overcast skies.
