Sighting Record 1201491

Observation Notes:
First butterflies to see in my yard this year, and are hard to photograph because they are very flighty. Warm days in the 60s. They perch on the concrete foundation of the house and on the side of the barn in sunshine.

Sighting Record 1201398

Observation Notes:
First butterfly I've seen this year. Didn't expect to at all. Was located in a wooded area among some junipers and other evergreens that surrounded a large pile of dead tree branches. Kept flying around me in circles, then would fly up and off to a distance (still in a pretty circular pattern), then would return and fly around and above me (about only 2-3' away) again, then after about 7 or 8 minutes of this it landed on one of the dead tree branches in the pile on the ground. Started spreading its wings out and stayed there for about a minute (just enough time for me to get some shots of it), then took off again, landing and resting again on the end of a juniper tree branch, where it did the same thing for another couple of minutes (resting and spreading its wings), and then it flew by me one more time and then, very suddenly, did a very quick touch-down on my FOREHEAD (like it was giving me a quick departing kiss!), because after that it took off completely and I didn't see it again! Size: Approx. 2.25-2.5" wingspan. Weather: Approx. 65 degrees, clear skies but fairly windy
