This was taken on the sidewalk next to a Walmart in Independence, Iowa. It was a pretty warm afternoon and when I tried to move it to a safer spot it was very active. Seems to be quite healthy

Time: ~3:45 p.m. Weather: Hot, slightly breezy, and mostly sunny. Habitat: Nature trail behind a rest area consisting primarily of tall vegetation. Notes: I only saw one Silver-spotted Skipper at this location. Some type of blue (most likely Summer Azure) and American Snouts were much more common in the area.

General Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy and very windy. Notes: The wind carried 2-3 Black Swallowtails right by me very quickly. This short-cut field is right next to a swampy area and a tallgrass roadside slope. The local flowers species were mostly white clover, bird's foot trefoil, crownvetch, and common milkweed.

The client who had the emergence first this year contacted our office last year with reports of damage, but didn't have any caterpillars. This year the client's entire grove behind their house have been defoliated. This accompanies fourteen other clients around Independence, Iowa who have reported extensive damage. We have not had any reports of this type of damage prior to 2017.

It was actually in an outside windowsill by my work. I came back out after a while and scooped her up to guide her to some bushes because it was bright and hot and she seemed disoriented. Maybe also because I woke her up.
