Great Purple Hairstreak
Atlides halesus

Observation date: November 05, 2023
Submitted by: Robert Gorman
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Mid day temp was around 90, we saw as many as six per shrub. It was harder to find a shrub with out a Great Purple than it was to a shrub with one. 30-50 we saw in less than an hour. Also many leda mini streak, almost all winter form. Then pygmy blue. also monarch queen, painted lady, sleepy orange and orange sulphur. white's that I never got an id but suspect checkered. We have never seen this many great purple in one location before. Heavy monsoon this summer left over from hurricane Hillary couple inches of rain some areas still have good nectar. most areas bone dry.
