Subfamily: Giant-Skippers (Megathyminae)

Identification: Upperside: Both wings suffused with orange, especially basally. Postmedian band of orange-yellow spots on both wings. Underside: Dark gray with postbasal and postmedian bands of gray-white spots. Caterpillar similar to that of the Orange Giant-Skipper.

Life history: Not reported

Flight: September - November (1 flight).

Wing span: 2 1/16 - 2 1/4 inches (53 - 58 mm).

Caterpillar hosts: McKelvey's agave in the northwest; chrysantha agave and hybrids with Parry's agave in the southeast.

Adult food: Not reported

Habitat: Canyons and rocky slopes in desert mountain ranges.

Range: Eastern California, central and northeastern Arizona.

Conservation: Not reported
