Identification: Forewing rusty orange with dull reddish to grayish brown lines, spot outlines, and veins. Hindwing shiny yellow with purplish red shading.
Wing Span: 3.2-4 cm.
Life History:
Flight: May - October.
Caterpillar Hosts: Alders, cabbage, roses, sumacs, walnuts; larvae may eat flowers and fruits as well as foliage.

Range: Newfoundland to South Carolina, west to Manitoba and Texas.
