Subfamily: Noctuinae
Identification: Thorax blackish. Forewing dark brown with variable black shading. Lines and spots very thin, black; most conspicuous marking is dash-like lower end of reniform spot. Hindwing grayish brown, darker toward margin.
Wing Span: 4-5.4 cm.
Life History: Larva (Iris Borer) bores into host plant.
Flight: September-October.
Caterpillar Hosts: Corms and rhizomes of iris and sometimes gladiolus.

Range: Nova Scotia to South Carolina, west to Minnesota, Missouri, and Mississippi.
