Identification: Head and thorax have mixed white and grayish brown hair scales. Forewing metallic brown mixed with iridescent blue and purple scales (visible under magnification). Hindwing gray.
Wing Span: 0.9-1.3 cm.
Life History:
Flight: April-May.
Caterpillar Hosts: Leaves of chestnut, chinquapin, and oaks.

Habitat:
Range: Nova Scotia to Florida, west to Illinois and Mississippi.
