Subfamily: Larentiinae
Identification: Wings deep brown; am. and pm. areas sometimes paler yellowish, especially southward. Lines black, wavy; pm. Line heaviest. Look for white filling in am. And pm. lines and white spotting in st. area.
Wing Span: 2.5-3.3 cm.
Life History:
Flight: July-November northward; common during any period southward.
Caterpillar Hosts: Amaranth and devil's claws.

Range: Tropical, straying north as far as Nova Scotia and Michigan.
