Subfamily: Erebinae
Identification: Similar to Catocala abbreviatella, but black reniform spot complete, more conspicuous, either solid or hollow. Marginal black band of yellowish orange hindwing not broken, but indented near anal angle.
Wing Span: 4-5 cm.
Life History:
Flight: July-August.
Caterpillar Hosts: Leadplant, honey locust, oak.
Adult Food:
Habitat:
Range: Kentucky, Minnesota, and Manitoba, south to Texas.
Conservation: Uncommon.
