Identification: Forewing pale brown to gray with darker median area; orbicular and reniform spots pale. Two black basal dashes; upper one Y-shaped, lower one straight. Broad black bar across lower median area. Two small, rounded black marginal patches. Hindwing grayish brown, darker at margin.
Wing Span: 3.2-4 cm.
Life History:
Flight: June-July.
Caterpillar Hosts: Grasses and sedges.

Range: Newfoundland to North Carolina, west to Manitoba, Minnesota, and Kentucky.
