Black Swallowtail
Papilio polyxenes

Observation date: August 03, 2014
Submitted by: kyyote
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This is a variation of the first example I sent, record # 996423. They are abundant on our parsley plants.
Status: Resident
Verified by: stevecary
Verified date: August 06, 2014
Coordinator notes: this looks like a normal black swallowtail larva. they eat plants in the carrot family, including parsley, dill, fennel, etc. so it can't be anything else. maybe cage this one, too, and then re-submit pictures of the two resulting chrysalises and adults. be sure to track which is which.
