Observation notes: I observed what I thought was a hummingbird feeding on a red flowering shrub I have in my front yard and as I watched it I saw its bold stripes and its very rapid wing speed. I leaned forward and saw the long proboscis eating and what looked to be horns on its front of its head. It was not fearful of my presence and let me get very close to watch it feed. Wider in the sides than a hummingbird..the time of day was just before dark. The climate is currently humid and experiencing a rare cool front in July.
