Great Leopard Moth
Hypercompe scribonia

Observation date: July 06, 2014
Submitted by: Kimberly Mrozinski
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found this bristly little bugger munching away on one of my miniature pumpkin plants on June 14. Collected him/her and placed in a habitat. Did try giving it different leaves to eat but it has preferred to stick with eating the pumpkin leaves. Has molted once since June 14, and is currently 3" long when in full stretch. It's feet clasps to objects like little suction cups. It's frazz is just about the same size as rabbit droppings...and it produces much frazz! Overall, a cute caterpillar!
