The day began c.loudy and cool, but afternoon at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge saw periods of direct sunlight. During one such period, my daughter spotted the specimen in the photograph submitted. While the butterfly moved quickly from one white clover blossom to another, it did settle to feed long enough near us that photos were possible. A couple other specimens with similar coloration, but much smaller in size, also were sighted, but there movements were so rapid that there was no opportunity to photograph them.
