Snowberry Clearwing
Hemaris diffinis

Observation date: May 29, 2014
Submitted by: Caralah
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Initially we were convinced that this was a bumblebee because of the sound it made and the size but after a lot of research, I am now convinced that this was a Snowberry Clearwing moth. It flew quickly between the Periwinkle flowers so it was difficult to get a good photo with my phone. I hope these photos are clear enough for you to be able to confirm my identification and report it. It was a sunny day and about 16 degrees C. The sighting was at: 79 39'26"W 44 35'58"N In Simcoe county, township of Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada. It doesn't show very well in the photos but it looked like it was coverec in fur and it has black legs.
