Observation notes: This moth was observed on May 5th 2014. It stayed in the same place for the full day, and departed at night. The moth had its wings fully closed during the cold temperatures in the early morning. During the day it was warm , but breezy, and the moth opened and closed its wings repeatedly while pulsing its body toward the wall and back out again.

Coordinator notes: The lack of red shading just beyond the PM line on the hind and fore wings help separate this species from H. cecropia. The lack of pink/maroon/purplish coloring as a broad diffuse band in the area beyond the PM line help separate this species from the Ceonothus Silkmoth.
