White-lined Sphinx
Hyles lineata

Observation date: April 18, 2014
Submitted by: Lowell LeFebvre
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: To me this looks like a strange humming bird. A friend thought that it is a type of moth (hawk or sphinx). Observed behavior: it was feeding on the Redbud tree blossoms in the same manner as a humming bird would. It did not land, just kept flying. I watched for 10 or 15 minutes.
