Acmon Blue
Plebejus acmon

Observation date: March 30, 2014
Submitted by: mmjdelgado
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I am having difficulty distinguishing between Lupine blue and Acmon blue. To me, it looks like the two in this photo are one of each, though on your website you call them both Acmon blue. I need this info before April 6 if possible, thank you very much.

Coordinator notes: These both look like Acmon Blues but keep in mind Lupine Blues are in Santa Barbara County and should start their flight in the near future. Lupine Blues in Santa Barbara County are in the monticola group and females there lack blue overscaling over the brown ground color. It is entirely possible both acmon and lupini may be in that area...I am not familiar where that preserve is. Both species often occur together but lupini is using California Buckwheat as a larval host. Lupine Blues are common in the Sierra Madre Range where they can be extremely abundant. I live in Bakersfield and have collected in the east part of your county frequently.
