Observation notes: These males seem to hill top up wind of, or west of large stands of mistletoe, are they able to give off a sent to females as to where they are? I have read in lots of books that there are a whole group of butterfly's that do this but have only once read this about these. cool day 56-60 very cold strong wind. most of the butterfly's were sheltered from the wind. never noticed this insect until it flew when i got very close to the scrub oak it was on. it quickly returned to its perch. mostly staying there, diane said it left to chase several other butterfly's of various species. lots of mistletoe on juniper and scrub oak. chaparral like shrubs and yucca cacti lots of wild flowers in area's that had burned last year. this area is one mountain ranges that edge the western edge of borrego state park.
