Cloudless Sulphur
Phoebis sennae

Observation date: January 30, 2014
Submitted by: stomlins701
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I found this Cloudless Sulphur in the middle of the road by the house, presumably sunning itself to get warm. To keep it from getting run down, I moved it to a potted salvia I had garaged over the cold spell. This butterfly survived at least the last two days of continuous near-freezing temperatures, so the species must be fairly hardy. Lucky for this guy temps in the mid 70's are forecast and that should get him warm enough to fly again. I had seen another cloudless sulphur during a warm spell on Jan. 12 but did not get a photo.
