Observation notes: I came across this rare moth today. I was certain it was not a butterfly as it had the appearance of a moth. It was motionless for awhile and then began rocking its body in a back and forth motion and intermittently swaying its wings. I became mesmerized by it as I've never seen anything like it before especially where I've lived for 14 years.

Coordinator notes: This Saturniidae species can be recognized by the pinkish maroon color that prevails beyond the postmedian white band. In H. columbia gloveri, this outer third of the wing has very little or no trace of maroon. Although variable, the discal spots are usually greatly elongated towards the outer edge of the wing, and this trait distinguishes euryalus from the other species of Hyalophora.
