Observation date: November 23, 2013
Submitted by: Ralph S. Carlson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Monarchs were sighted in many places in the botanic garden, though mostly in the north central sectors where many Rubber Rabbitbrush shrubs were in bloom. While last month, Queens were also sighted in the same areas, today, in November, none were visible. The pair in the photo were near a third which lofted and moved to another blooming shrub bear by. Overnight low temperature in the area was 44 degrees Fahrenheit. There was no breeze at the time the photo was taken. The morning began cool and cloudy. Temperature was approaching 55 to 58 degrees Fahrenheit. The specimens and others sighted tended to rest in positions for warming in sunlight as clouds lifted and dispersed.
