Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This specimen was drowning in a puddle outside St. Mary's Cathedral, midway between the side parking lot entrance to the Chancery and the street. I carefully collected the butterfly (as it was flapping in distress with torn wings) and brought it home. Specimen, named "Regina" is somnolent but will eagerly feed on a slice of overripe lemon. In warmth it seems to relax. May be an egg-bearing female as it is growing larger in abdominal area, which twitches spasmodically at times. Cannot determine gender for sure, but "Regina" has lived comfortably in my care for over a full day now. Weather was 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
