Observation notes: Hatched from larva of deer weed grew deerweed in large planter with well drained cactus soil got lots of larva have plant deer weed in several areas in yard have these butterflies ever since, seem to tolerate water if soil is well drained. will post photo of larva fast flier nectars at buddleia and many others

Coordinator notes: It is hard to identify from a photo, but a caterpillar on deerweed would be funeralis, not tristis which is an oak feeder. The white fringe narrows it down to those two in California.
