Observation notes: For about two weeks or so I had been noticing a smaller butterfly that resembled a monarch flying around our grounds and wondered if it was one the looked something like the monarch. When I saw this one up in the butterfly bush, somewhat hard to photograph as it was not near the edge of the bush, I was glad to see the difference in the dark lines especially after a monarch landed on a flower on same bush. Viceroy stayed in the same area of the bush for awhile. I moved on.
