Observation notes: I noticed several long-tailed skippers that were quite a bit smaller, and more skittish, than the typical Long-tailed Skippers we get. They also did not have any color on the back. ID appears to be Dorantes Skipper, based on size, lack of any color on back (this is just one of 5+ seen) and that the band farthest back on the wing is broken, not solid as on long-tailed. This butterfly is not on the state list of either Sumter County (where I live) or the adjacent Lake County. However, I have read it is spreading rapidly through Florida.
