Observation notes: The "spikes" are solid. It seems to defend itself by bending (sharply) into a "U" shape to use the spikes. I was found in the grass in our yard. The day was hot (90 degrees) and humid. The nearest trees are pin oaks, mimosa and a lonely pine.
