American Dagger Moth
Acronicta americana

Observation date: September 08, 2013
Submitted by: ziklagphilistine
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I found this catapillar crawling on my front porch - terribly sorry for the fuzzy pic but it has dense yellow bristles with 3 sets of 2 black "spikes" and black underbelly. Nearest trees are: red maple, sugar maple, hickory - there is a large akebia vine at the corner of the porch and one potted periwinkle. After that there is only grass and many assorted perennials. It has not rained in the last 6 days but this summer has been wet and mild.
