Observation notes: This butterfly was on Scale-Broom (Lepidospartum squamatum) in coastal sage scrub at the Claremont College's Bernard Field Station. Climbing Milkweed (Funastrum cynanchoides var. hartwegii), a host plant for the Queen, occurs at the field station, but I had never seen one of them before.
