Saddleback Caterpillar Moth
Acharia stimulea

Observation date: August 18, 2013
Submitted by: wgbrown
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on a jar lid in my rose bed. Caterpillar is, unfortunately, dead. The first picture of from the rear where it has two distinct "eyes" and two tuffs with orange "fur". The front has four tuffs with less distinctive eyes. It is less than an inch long. Looks like a miniature dog wearing a "coat." Notice the oval cutout in the coat. Found in Yadkin county, NC
