Verified date: January 03, 2014
Coordinator notes: This is S. jamaicensis, as the first coordinator thought. The differences between S. jamaicensis and S. cerisyi are subtle--they are in the tip of the forewings and in the eyespot on the hindwings. Smerinthus jamaicensis has a crescent-moon shaped marking on the forewing tip, Smerinthus cerisyi has a lighter-colored area toward the leading edge of the forewing tip. Another difference is in the eyespot. Smerinthus jamaicensis has a line across the eye, while Smerinthus cerisyi has a spot in the center of the eye. SAT
