Western Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio rutulus

Observation date: June 10, 2013
Submitted by: Tanya McBee
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found this caterpillar climbing up the side of a medical building. Closest plants were elm trees, but there are very healthy cottonwoods across the street from where we found it in the city's rose garden. With 107 degree temps on the rise,(and pigeons waiting atop the building) we decided to take it home. Not that night but the following, it began to pupate. Spent 17 days before it emerged on the beginning of our monsoon rains.
