Ceanothus silkmoth
Hyalophora euryalus

Observation notes: The moth fell on the ground while I walking by. He proceeded to try to fly but was unable to. He eventually moved over and stayed still on the corner of the path. About 4 hours later I walked by again and saw he was still there with his wings together. I grabbed a cup and when I went to pick him up he was still alive. He placed him in a tray and he began to flap his wings. Within a few minutes he was flying and he flew away with our help. I'd love to know if this was a male or female moth and what the typical life cycle of this moth is. I named him Lionel. I was sad that I thought he was dying but glad when he started flying and flew away.
