Date notes: The time is not exact. The butterfly was collected some time between 15:15 and 16:45.

Observation notes: The butterfly was collected sweeping vegetation (much of it dead) with a net. The weather conditions: cloudy, with an occasional few minutes of sun/partial sun, there were a few sprinkles of rain around noon (12:00). Habitat: a fragment of oak grassland in a development of houses. Plants nearby: Blue Oaks (Quercus douglasii) (prevalent species of oak right here), one or two Valley Oaks (Quercus lobata), somekind of wild perinnel lupine (Lupinus spp.) lots of Coyote Brush (Baccharis spp.), a very few tarweeds (Hemizonia spp.) (blooming), some kind of wild aster (blooming, purple wildflower about 1/2 inch across with yellow/orange centers and pale small leaves) and a lot of some kind of pale blue wildflower. Also a few weeds such as yellow star thistle and mustard weed, both blooming.
