Observation notes: I saw four or five of these moths hovering around a woodpile in back of my house. They would occasionally land and crawl into a space, then back out and start hovering again. After about ten minutes, they all wandered off. The attached picture is of the last one before it left.
All of the moths had a red-tipped abdomen.
The weather was clear and sunny, and the temperature was in the 60s.
