Observation notes: From photos on bugguide.net, I believe this is Hemileuca tricolor. http://bugguide.net/node/view/224528 Cool, sunny day. These photos are not of the same individual, but several of them were feeding close together in the same shrub, and it seems likely they are the same species. A botanist colleague of mine indicated that the shrub is probably Psorothamnus fremontii.
