Coordinator notes: This may in fact be an undescribed species but I have no way of knowing. Since I don't know if there is consensus that it is an undescribed taxon, I think the most prudent thing to do until it is published is list it under Hemileuca maia. Wonderful photographs.
I do not know who wrote what is above my comment, but I agree. Rather than this record persisting in unidentified-limbo, it's wise to treat it as H. maia (despite the fact that this population may prove to be more closely allied with H. nevadensis).-R. St. Laurent
