Observation notes: Butterflies of any sort have gotten quite scarce out on most of the prairies. This was the only individual seen all day, and appeared in the late afternoon (4PM) over the blackened ground of a just-completed burn. It may have come from lines of Douglas-fir trees 1/4-1/2 mile away. 74F degrees, full sun.
