Snowberry Clearwing
Hemaris diffinis

Observation date: August 23, 2012
Submitted by: fachento
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I observed this specimen pollinating/feeding on the blooms of some ornamental vegetation in the front of a house (on the shady side) -- it's markings seemed reminiscent of a bumblebee, but it's flight was more like that of a humming bird/bee. I was not able to capture a still shot of it's wings to aid in identification, but hopefully the freeze-frame screen shots from the video I took will be enough? It was a warm afternoon, 100º F, partly cloudy, still/light breeze, around 90% humidity, in relative shade, by established hedges near the house. I don't know the name of the plant it was feeding on.
